A structured new-patient exam and the conversations that follow — 44 lessons on examination flow, photography and case acceptance
Frank Spear, Ricardo Mitrani, Kevin Kwiecien, Gary DeWood and the Monokian brothers lead The New Patient Experience: Exam, Communication & Case Acceptance That Converts. Its seven modules and 44 short lessons (8 h 10 min) follow the patient from operatory set-up and an outside-in clinical exam through segmenting patients, decision psychology and co-diagnosis to six photographs that help people say yes.

What you’ll be able to do
- Run a comprehensive new-patient exam in a fixed outside-in order, from muscles and joints to occlusion
- Train your assistant to handle the pre-clinical interview and support you during the exam
- Route patients into the right type of exam and create value for existing patients too
- Apply persuasion and decision models to how you present treatment
- Capture the six key clinical images and use them in co-diagnosis
Inside the course
The exam itself
Thirteen lessons film the complete visit: a checklist, room preparation, the assistant’s role before and during the exam, radiographs, muscle and TMJ palpation, soft-tissue, dental and periodontal charting, occlusal analysis, bite records, photographs, facebow and alginates.
Putting it into practice
A second module deals with rolling the exam out: sorting patients by need, persuading long-standing patients to accept a fuller evaluation, and answering the questions teams usually raise when switching to comprehensive care.
The psychology of saying yes
Case acceptance is approached through practice economics and three research frameworks — the elaboration likelihood model, the persuasion knowledge model and a decision model with patient categories. Co-diagnosis and patient education videos are presented as an alternative to a one-way presentation.
Restorative and esthetic conversations
Mitrani contrasts single-tooth and comprehensive cases, discusses the buyer’s journey and answers questions. Later lessons cover retractors and occlusal photography, communicating in urgent times, and offering options rather than a single fixed plan.

Are the patient education videos mentioned in the lessons included?
No. Some lessons show how to present cases with Spear’s patient education videos, which are a separate subscription product and not part of this download.
Could this overlap with a management bundle I already own?
Very likely if you bought the nine-course management and communication bundle, which draws on the same Spear faculty; compare lesson titles first.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
