Complications in mucogingival and peri-implant surgery — how Zucchelli and Stefanini prevent, spot and repair them
Bologna periodontists Prof. Giovanni Zucchelli and Dr. Martina Stefanini devote Failure and Success in Periodontal and Peri-Implant Soft Tissue Surgery to what goes wrong in recession coverage and in immediate or delayed implant cases. Eleven lectures totalling 8 h 22 min combine theory, commented clinical clips and a pig-jaw demonstration, working through errors before, during and after surgery.

What you’ll be able to do
- Screen medical history, systemic and local factors to lower the risk before a flap is raised
- Control intra-operative bleeding and protect the inferior alveolar nerve at the chin and the infra-orbital nerve
- Recognise high-risk steps for flap perforation and follow a repair protocol when one occurs
- Manage delayed problems such as dehiscence, scarring, partial coverage and exostosis
- Correct misplaced implants and exposed grafts with soft tissue techniques
Inside the course
Three phases of risk
Complications are sorted into pre-surgical, intra-operative and post-surgical groups. Early lectures cover diagnosis and prognosis, safe palatal harvesting, bleeding and a table of anatomical factors that raise the difficulty of an operation.
Perforations and nerves
Clips show why the deep split-thickness dissection and release of muscle attachments are the moments perforations happen. A commented lower-arch multiple recession case illustrates nerve protection in the chin area.
Implant-related errors
Peri-implant dehiscence, papilla dimensions and implants placed too apically or too coronally are analysed case by case, along with grafts that end up visible because of poor de-epithelialisation or positioning.
Solutions and hands-on
A palatal necrosis case healed with an envelope flap, the authors’ approach to immediate implants with a coronally advanced flap and graft, and a pig-jaw session on palatal graft incisions and suturing close the course.

Before you buy
Is this a basic introduction to root coverage?
No. It assumes familiarity with flaps and connective tissue grafts and concentrates on errors and their management.
How much practical footage is included?
Most lectures include clinical clips, and the final 25-minute lesson is a hands-on demonstration on an animal jaw.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
