Steve Schiffenhaus built Overlay, Onlay and Advanced Adhesion as a virtual stand-in for a hands-on workshop on non-retentive partial coverage ceramics. Over 8 modules and roughly 24 hours, lectures alternate with typodont and live-patient demos covering biomechanics, ceramic design, a step-by-step prep protocol, IDS with resin coating, rubber dam isolation, Biobases and warm-composite luting. Guest lecturer Graeme Milicich adds his framework on the six ways teeth fracture.

Inside the course
The case for partial coverage
The opening modules ask why crowns cover cusps at all, then review enamel, dentin and the DEJ, composites and glass ceramics. They explain how margin placement, thickness and adhesion change fracture resistance, why ceramics should stay above the height of contour, and what drives peripheral rim fractures.
Preparation you can pause and rewind
Schiffenhaus shows his armamentarium, compares handpieces with a nod to electric models, and walks through caries and defect removal inside a ceramic workflow. Eleven lessons of demos show every step of his overlay and onlay prep.
Adhesion, isolation and build-ups
The longest module reviews dentin bonding, the literature on IDS versus conventional protocols, and post-operative sensitivity. Posterior rubber dam technique follows, from clamp choice and hole punching to inversion, floss ligatures and teflon, and then the hierarchy of bondability behind fibre-reinforced Biobases.
Cases and the instructors
Four lessons of photo and video case review plus a short bonus on direct composites close the course. Schiffenhaus practises biomimetic dentistry in Gilbert, Arizona and founded the BAARD institute in 2020. Milicich helped found the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry and has won its clinician and research awards.
